About Ocarina App for MAC

Ocarina is the first true musical instrument created for the iPhone. Both experts and beginners will be amazed by this innovative player. Ocarina is sensitive to your breath, touch and movements, making it even more versatile than the original. Unlike other musical applications, there are no pre-compiled riffs so musicians will find unlimited opportunities for self-expression. Advanced options allow you to choose between diatonic, minor and harmonic scales. Or channel your favorite video game adventurer with Smule’s Zeldarian mode.

But you don’t have to be formally trained to appreciate this enchanting instrument. For beginners, Smule provides an interactive tutorial on its website. It’s so easy, anyone can play it even if you don’t read sheet music.

  • Blow into your microphone to generate music
  • Hold down combinations of the holes to change your pitch
  • Tilt your phone from front to back to change the vibrato depth
  • Tilt your phone from side to side to change the vibrato rate

Also, like most Smule products, Ocarina is a social application. Tap on the globe icon and you will see and hear other Ocarina players throughout the world. The globe view will highlight the source of the music. Rate your favorite performances so that others may benefit from your judgment. Name your Ocarina if you want listeners around the world to identify your performances. With this robust application beautiful music is created, appreciated and shared.

We appreciate all of the great feedback our users are providing, including all of the amazing music scores they have created on ocarina.smule.com/forum. Thank you!

    New Features

    Version 1.4.2:

    • Touch 4 users: Added message explaining mic location on iPod Touch 4. The Touch 4 mic is the tiny hole located next to your camera. Due to its location, the mic is not able to pick up your breath if you do not directly blow into it, it’s very different than recording your voice. So the app rotates to the most optimal playing position with correct fingerings so that you can have the best results when blowing into your mic.
    • iPhone 4 users: Fixed problem where mic was too quiet.

    Installing Apps on MAC

Most Mac OS applications downloaded from outside the App Store come inside a DMG file. Like if you wanna download Ocarina for mac from this page, you’ll directly get the .dmg installation file into your MAC.

    1. First, download the Ocarina .dmg installation file from the official link on above
    2. Double-click the DMG file to open it, and you’ll see a Finder window.
    3. Often these will include the application itself, some form of arrow, and a shortcut to the Applications folder.
    4. Simply drag the application’s icon to your Applications folder
    5. And you’re done: the Ocarina is now installed.
    6. When you’re done installing: just click the “Eject” arrow.
    7. Then you can feel free to delete the original DMG file: you don’t need it anymore.
    8. Now, enjoy Ocarina for MAC !

You don’t have to put your programs in the Applications folder, though: they’ll run from anywhere. Some people create a “Games” directory, to keep games separate from other applications. But Applications is the most convenient place to put things, so we suggest you just put everything there.

DMG files are mounted by your system, like a sort of virtual hard drive. When you’re done installing the application, it’s a good idea to unmount the DMG in Finder.
